Top Hollywood star Woody Harrelson is set to perform at the Riverside Studios in Hammersmith later this year.

He is appearing along with Andy Serkis and Louisa Harland in an eight-week run of David Ireland’s play ‘Ulster American’ directed by Jeremy Herrin.

The pitch-dark comedy looks at power dynamics, cultural identity and the perils of being a woman in the entertainment industry.

It features an Oscar-winning American actor, an English director and a Northern Irish playwright about to begin rehearsals for a new play.

The differing priorities of the three protagonists leads to the night spiralling out of control.

It has been nearly two decades since Oscar nominee Harrelson has appeared on the London stage and he will be taking the role of Jay Conway. Andy Serkis, who went to school in Ealing, plays the English director Leigh Carver while the role of the playwright Ruth Davenport is performed by Louisa Harland who is best known as dippy Orla in Derry Girls but more recently has appeared in Dancing at Lughnasa at the National Theatre.

The play was first staged in 2018 and won the Carol Tambor Best of Edinburgh Award and the Scotsman Fringe First Award.

Ulster American runs for eight weeks from 4 December 2023 to 28 January 2024.

Presale ticket access begins at 10am on 10 October. It is recommended for ages 16 and over as it contains very strong language, graphic violence and references to sexual assault.
