London Fire Brigade says that six fire engines and around 35 firefighters have tackled a blaze within 16 storey Parsons House, an Imperial College Halls of Residence attached to Charing Cross Hospital.

The fire in the building on Claybrook Road, west of Margravine Cemetery began in a four room flat on the tenth floor of the building.

London Fire Brigade tweeted just before 1pm @LondonFire: " Six fire engines & 35 firefighters are dealing with a fire on Claybrook Road in Hammersmith. More when we have it. "

Shortly after they tweeted that part of the 10th floor was alight, but within an hour they followed up saying: " Hammersmith halls of residence fire is out. 10 people left the block uninjured before we arrived."

A spokeswoman for the NHS Trust said it was a small fire, and there are currently no students staying in the building.
