Three rarely available houseboats, moored at Hammersmith’s Dove and Hope Piers, off Furnivall Gardens and Lower Mall, are now on the market.

And while flats in nearby riverside developments come with million pound price tags, houseboats offering comfortable floating homes with unique river views, quiet locations - and easy access to some of Hammersmith’s most popular pubs - are for sale at a fraction of the cost.

At Dove Pier, on the south west corner of Furnivall Gardens, a one bedroom purpose built houseboat is up for sale at £250,000, offering a large reception room, breakfast kitchen, bedroom with built-in wardrobes and a shower room.

Estate agent RiverHomes, which is marketing all three boats, also points out that, moored at a pivotal point in the Cambridge & Oxford Boat Race; on the bend between Hammersmith and Chiswick, it is the ultimate host venue for this annual event.

Largely uninterrupted views downstream towards Hammersmith Bridge and across the river to Barnes are on offer at a one bedroom houseboat moored on an outer berth of Hope Pier, by Lower Mall. Built in 2014, this boat, for sale at £270,000, is 42 feet long by 13 feet wide and offers a spacious open flat kitchen reception room, leading to a master bedroom with en-suite shower room. Outside, there is decking along one side of the vessel leading to a large roof deck.

For those in search of something a bit different, Vertrouwen is a steel Dutch barge, built in 1929. This fully operational two bedroom, two bathroom home, priced £350,00, sits on an outer mooring at Dove Pier.

Vertrouwen includes a spacious wheelhouse with plenty of seating and direct river views, plus a spacious reception with ample light from the sky lights as well as windows around the sides of the boat. There are two bedrooms, each with ensuite facilities, including a master bathroom in the boat’s bow.

While these floating homes may sound like a bargain, there is a catch - owners also have to shell out considerable mooring charges. The most affordable is at Hope Pier, where the mooring and maintenance fees are approximately £192.93 per month.

At Dove Pier, the cost of the annually renewable residential mooring is considerably higher. The new owners of the one bedroom houseboat would be faced with a mooring charge of around £500 per calendar month plus a service charge of around £43.67 per calendar month, though this includes council tax and water rates. The mooring charges for the Vertrouwen meanwhile, are a daunting £15,341 per annum.
