|Local MP Joins Labour Front Bench|
Andy Slaughter will be part of new Justice team
Andy Slaughter, MP for Hammersmith, has been promoted to join Labour's new front bench.
He has been chosen by newLabour leader Ed Miliband to serve in the Justice team, supporting Shadow Lord Chancellor and shadow justice secretary Sadiq Khan. His colleagues in the team are Helen Goodman Rob Flello and shadow minister for political and constitutional reform Chris Bryant
Andy, who last week celebrated his 50th birthday, has been a Member of Parliament since 2005, when he retired from his position as Leader of the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham Council and won the old Ealing, Acton & Shepherds Bush seat.
In 2010 he was re-elected to Parliament as MP for the new Hammersmith seat, which includes Shepherds Bush.
He has lived locally all his life, attending Peterborough Primary School in Clancarty Road, then Latymer Upper School in King Street, before going on to Exeter University.
He lived in Fulham for the next 16 years and in 1998, moved to live off the Askew Road in Shepherds Bush.
He says: " I was honoured to be asked by Ed Miliband, the new leader of the Labour party, to serve in the Shadow Justice team. It is of course exciting to serve on Labour’s front bench at a time of renewal for the Party.
" I believe our new team is capable of holding the coalition to account as they pursue an ideological programme of cuts masquerading as austerity.
" As part of Ed Miliband’s opposition team I look forward to continuing to fight for my constituents in Hammersmith, Shepherds Bush and White City, but also to ensuring the worst of our opponents’ plans in Justice are exposed and opposed strenuously."
