A murder investigation has been launched following a stabbing in Fulham.

Police were called at approximately 1.50am on Tuesday, 7 June 2011 to reports of a man stabbed in a park area off Lillie Road.

The man, who was in his thirties, was taken to hospital but died a few hours later.

Police believe we know his identity and are in the process of informing next of kin.

At this early stage it is believed that the victim was in the park area with friends when they were approached by a group of men and an altercation occurred. Police have no further description or number of suspects at this time but it is believed the groups were unknown to each other. The group may have left the scene in the direction of the West Kensington Estate.

Enquiries are underway by the Homicide and Serious Crime Command. There have been no arrests.

Detective Chief Inspector Nick Scola said, "We are at the initial stages of our inquiry and will be working closely with the borough officers and the local community whilst we carry out our investigations. If anyone has any information about this incident, or was in the area at the time and saw or heard something suspicious, I would ask them to contact police."

Anyone with information is asked to call the Incident Room on 020 8721 4005 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
