Patients and visitors can learn about trials into Parkinson’s disease run by Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust during an awareness event taking place at Charing Cross Hospital on Thursday April 18.

There will be information on current studies and how people can take part in research to find new treatments as part of Parkinson's Awareness Week, which is running from April 15 - 21.

Staff from the Dementias and Neurogenerative Disease Research Network (DeNDRoN) will be available at a stand on the first floor of Charing Cross Hospital from 1pm -4pm on April 18 to provide information and distribute information leaflets. There will also be a representative from the national charity, Parkinson’s UK.

There will be information on display regarding research at Charing Cross Hospital as well as research in general into Parkinson’s disease. Studies at Charing Cross include research into new treatments and the effectiveness of current treatments.

Anna Rabindrakumar, clinical research officer at DeNDRoN, says: " Anyone interested in hearing more about Parkinson’s disease, research into new treatments and how to get involved in those studies can come along and chat to us. Clinical research will help to find a breakthrough for people with Parkinson’s disease. We encourage people to play a vital role in research and help make a difference.

" By promoting high quality clinical research, the Trust and DeNDRoN aim to increase understanding of the causes of these conditions, and improve the prevention, detection, care and treatment for people suffering from them."

To find out more about taking part in research, people can ask their NHS specialist or register their interest online here.

DeNDRoN supports the development, set up and delivery of clinical research in the NHS in the dementias, Huntington’s disease, motor neurone disease, Parkinson’s disease, and other neurodegenerative diseases.

Through the research network, health research is being integrated into patient care and treatment, improving the quality, speed and co-ordination of clinical research and increasing collaboration with industry and third sector partners and ensuring that the NHS can meet the health research needs.
