Much as Clarkson may wind people up - he does have a point. Buses contribute disproportionately to particulates in the air and cars, even 4x4s have minimal particulate and NO2 emissions. There is a serious point to this in that middle class activists are going up to an manufacturing area in the West Midlands, already desperately under pressure due to the Longbridge closure, and undermining the remaining volume car industry there. And all this based on pseudo science that doesn't stand up to any scrutiny.Buses are a good thing because they provide cheap and flexible public transport (although this is less the case now thanks to the massive rises in fares over the last few years). They are not in any way a 'green' means of transport.4x4s may annoy people and I can't understand why someone would want to own one given our narrow residential roads but in the big scheme of things they don't really do that much harm to the environment. If people really wanted to do something about CO2 emissions they should probably start demonstrating outside travel agents.
