Jeremy Clarkson bus demo

Of course he is wrong but we do need people like Clarkson to point out the petty and stupid. It's also worth bearing in mind that Transport for London are a phenomenally arrogant organisation whos policies seem to constantly fail to address the real issues in favour of old style political polemic.It is reasonably clear that very few people "want" to travel by bus so the approach has been to force them. All a bit old style communist.I would welcome a design to get the traffic moving. Perhaps a start would be to organise school busses for everyone in order to lighten the "school run" congestion. I,as a parent would certainly welcome such a move and I'm sure many others would to. I do not pretend to be a transport planer, and in that spirit I wish polititians would stop pretending to be too.

It isn't clear cut that he is wrong on his basic point - i.e. that buses are worse for the environment than 4x4s. The value of buses is that they are low-cost transport (or at least they were before the massive rise in fares). There is no real environmental benefit if people move from cars to buses.School buses would be a great idea but probably too expensive so instead we get pointless and patronising 'Walk to School' weeks. Why all the emphasis on the School Run which only impacts for a limited period each day - why not have 'Walk to Work' weeks - perhaps they could close the car park at the Town Hall for the week.
