Southern Indian restaurant
After having eaten several times at Oottupura at 206 King Street and also enjoying their take away lunch boxes I have to say I am impressed by their clean distinctive flavours of this light style of cooking - very different from Pakistani. I recommend two starters - Crab Malabar and Konju Fry (marinated king prawns). For main courses dosas are good and also I particularly like the vegetarian dishes like Beet Cheera Pachadi (spinach and raw beetroot cooked in black mustard flavoured yoghurt and coconut paste). A word of warning - the indications of chili heat in the menu are not up to date so ask the waiter if you are concerned rather than relying on the number of chilis shown. Prices are less than most Indian restaurants in Hammersmith - about £ 4 a dish. Especially good value is the Super Lunch Box (Take Away) at £ 3.50 with dosa plus sauce, vegetable curry, cabbage thoran, a fish/chicken/lamb dish, rice salad and a sweet (Pal Payasam - rice pudding cooked with nuts) - all delicious.
