Lost cat

Black one year old male with white chest & paws, neutered. Was wearing a purple collar with his name & a mobile number on a disc (although this may have come off). Last seen at home (Cromwell Grove, W6) 11pm on Wednesday 27th July 2005.We are desperate to get him back - he is (or was when we last saw him) very affectionate and friendly. Hi VictoriaYes please - do send me the details from the Mayors office etc.You are right when you say that most people are very nice & helpful - we got to know most of our neighbours who popped in to finnd out about the cat even if they had no information.Bernie

Dear Bernie,I know you know. Reading your email seemed to hear myself.It is horrible. We are in London and there is no connection between rescue centres and no central office that communicate with each other. They don't even have the instrument to check the microchip! What's the point in having put a microchip then? I have also experienced my poster being vandalisd, tore apart and being painted with graffiti.I had a call of a guy saying he had my cat and would cut his head off if I didn't give lots of money!!! Imagine. Lost of people were nice though, called me when they found a similar looking cat and even inviting me in to look in their garden. The majority of people I met were really nice, I have to say. But still the fact that London doesn't really care in providing the same support and organisation that they have for dogs is really disgraceful plus a central system in which they log in animals found and is accessible to everybody! We should propose it don't you think? For now I have contacted the Major's office and they say they will look into it and try. If you want I can give you the details and emails I received from them...I even wrote to the EC to be considered! and so they finally answered.Anyway, I am so sorry about your cat, you never know maybe somebody adopted him. At the Battersea they told me that sometimes cats are found after 9 months they went missing, somewhere completely different, because someone has found them and brought them in a different area.I don't know what we could have done more than what we did.Vic

Dear VictoriaWe have been through everything that you have. We cancelled our summer holiday as he went missing just before we were due to leave & we thought he would come back so did not want to be away. We spent our holiday advertising, phoning, responding to possible sightings, & visiting every possible cat refuge we heard of. I am afraid that we have given up hope.I do worry about someone taking these cats for unpleasant reasons but what can we do (I was appalled to discover that someone had gone around our neighbourhood taking our posters out of their plastic wallets, tearing them up & dropping them on the pavement.) I understand that foxes can take cats & we do have foxes where we live.One thing that really amazed me is that there is no central place where one can register lost animals - one has to phone every vet, every animal charity etc etc & none of them communicate with each other. Our search also dented my faith in the RSPCA.I do hope you see your cat again - there is more hope for you as he was initially feral wasn't he? Ours was very affectionate & would not have left voluntarily. Was yours microchipped?Bernie

Dear Bernardette,I know exacly what you mean. It is terrible not knowing what has happened to him. I have tried everything, I have even put an advert on the H&F magazine with a colour picture, but nothing.I have called the Battersea and other charities, nothing. I have contacted the Council(s) yuo know just in case, nothing. I have discovered that our Borough cannot read the microchips, they don't have the machines, other Boroughs do. I wrote to complain and the gov said that they will try to put all the Boroughs up to the same standards and make them comunicate...cats can travel.But, the point is still, I haven't found my cat. He disappeared...as you said...with no trace.You know other cats have been missing in my area, almost at the same time, I have even thought that somebody may have deliberately cought them, to do...I don't want to immagine.What can I tell you, what I tell myself, I will always hope that one day I would see him again.If you want to look for him and go around let me know, we could do it together.My email is kandidauk@yahoo.co.ukTake careVictoria
