'nuff said!
SSRA is the Sinclair Road Residents' Association.Madam, Sir It is with a great deal of surprise that we have received the latest 'Labour Action Team for Addison' circular. It is with a great deal of anger that we see that the work which has been done by Sinclair Road Residents Association members over the past four years has been hijacked for political gain. As you know perfectly well yourselves, the campaign against rogue estate agents and fly-boarding was not initiated by Labour, or, indeed by the Labour-controlled council. This inititiative was set and worked upon solely by SRRA volunteers; at no point in the past did Labour offer to help in this matter; it jumped instead on the bandwagon two months ago, when all the hard work had been done by our association. To refresh your memory: It was an SRRA campaigner who alerted the Council that it was possible to use a so-called 'section 7 order' to curb the excesses of local estate agents, and who, after meeting complete inertia, had to provide the Council with the information it needed, carrying all the research work on his own.It was SRRA which carried out a survey in the area, which showed clearly that getting rid of fly-postering was a very important issue for local residents. It was SRRA volunteers who patrolled our streets for several weeks to present irrefutable data to LBHF enforcing officers, and provided them with a substantial dossier that forms the basis of the Council's request for action. It was SRRA which kept up the pressure on the council to ensure the process was carried out. We are deeply shocked that no effort was made by you - at any stage - to discuss the matter with our association. As a strictly non-politically aligned group, we would have welcome this opportunity, as we welcome the opportunity to work with all stakeholders in our community. As you decided to leaflet the area with the quite extraordinary claim that, somehow, it would be thanks to the Labour Action team for Addison that this campaign would be a success, SRRA is left with no alternative but to make its position public. Copies of this email have been addressed to all our members, as well as to representatives of the local media. Regards, Philippe Auclair & Denis Carroll, Joint Chairs, for and on behalf of SRRA
