The Legislative and Regulatory Reform Bill
I wonder how many people are aware of this Bill which is currently before the House, has passed Committee, and is shortly to become law, but likely to be opposed by the Lords. It is a measure to REDUCE parliamentary scrutiny of new legislation to make it easy for the executive to pass new laws - in other words more erosion of Parliament as a supervisory body.If you are not clear what this means visit www.saveparliament.org.uk to read, among others, Henry Porter in the Guardian who details this outrageous Bill.I wrote To Andrew (now Andy!) Slaughter for his comments, but answer came there none. The Labour members have voted in their entirety for the Bill, the Liberals and Conservatives against it.
