Council attack on immigrants

Did anyone else see the leader of the council’s nasty attack on immigrants in this week’s paper? I’m outraged and really worried about the direction we seem to be heading in. According to the story, the Council is blaming the borough’s immigrants for all the Council’s failings, from street cleaning to school results. It’s the kind of thing I'd expect from the BNP not Cameron’s Conservatives.

I read the paper  too and he was simply putting forward the argument for more funding - surely a laudable aim and one  which is supported by the Polish community in Hammersmith. Suggest you read the facts in future, rather than making allegations which are wholly untrue.

My recollection was that the council leader was saying that the increased numbers of immigrants, which were of course not included in the population assumed by central government when determining grants, were leading to a problem with the council's finances.  That is not an "attack" on immigrants, nor is it "blaming" them.When you say "they got rid of their only ethnic minority councillor", who do you mean by "they"?  I thought it was the residents who elected the councillors.

I saw the story in the Fulham Chronicle. And reading this weeks Chronicle I notice I wasn't the only one as there are 3 letters complaining about it. One of the letters compares the new leader of the council to Hitler. I was thinking this was a bit over the top, but then again: last year they got rid of their only ethnic minority councillor, this year they stopped funding the Blythe neighbourhood carnival and now they seem to be trying to blame immigrants for their difficulties. It does start to look like they have strategy.
