A young Korean visitor walked out of our house tonight and was assaulted by three youths - the classic mugging - one held him, another punched him in the face, and the third took his mobile and laptop.  He and his Korean girlfriend were utterly shocked.  I took them down to the walk-in centre, where there were about eight people waiting, to be told that it would be four hours wait before a doctor could see him!  No point in asking them why.  "We're very busy tonight!"  I think they will be thinking twice about staying here to learn English.Police were very quick, but what could they do?  I wonder whether this will be reported on this site?

That is interesting - as a bulletin - but I was comcerned that we were not getting up-to-date info from the police on recent crime.  I think the sort of occurrence we had at home a few days ago should surface as a warning to people not to venture out at night clutching laptops, or using a mobile, unless it is a short journey - and you have had a good look round first.  In the case of our Korean visitor the idea of being mugged in a "civilised" country was completely alien to him.  We know better - particularly in this part of London, but how do you warn young foreign visitors about the perils of walking these streets at night without frightening the bejasus out of them?

Yes - and Chiswick, on the other hand, does seem to keep the residents informed of very recent crime.

There was a time when the site use to give details of various crimes that occurred in the borough but this stopped more then a year ago. These reports had details of where to report information and details of the crime. Who stopped reporting this, was it the police or the site controllers. I posted a message about this but no response, surely any information on any crime may alert people and spreading the news may lead people to give information about the crime. Chiswickw4 has occasional reports of crime incidents but the hammersmith reports were with details of a couple and it also alerted people to different crimes and in different places around the borough.Maybe the new council can aid in working with the local police to give reports of the serious crimes or crimes that are being committed by serial criminal.The only crime figures reported now is on the met police website but yet no information of where, when, who etc.
