Fireworks in Ravenscourt Park

Don't forget the firework display tomorrow evening.  I love seeing our council tax going up in smoke.

Let's hope with all this rain it regrows nice and green very soon.  Must say the park loved lovely this morning with some magnificent reds and golds and yellows on the trees.  Magic.

The fireworks didn't cost £1 million. We don't know the actual cost because they were bought by the contractors - but there were 20,000 people there paying £4-£5 each = £100,000.We have decided not to returf where the fire was but will reseed it.

Thanks Mark.  Ravenscourt is a great park and is well looked after.  And much used.  I walk across it most days to get the tube.

I would be very surprised if the fireworks cost £1 million I think I would have heard had they wanted to take that much money out of our budgets - but can check...Funnily enough, I was talking to the parks people at the display about the bonfire. They actually remove all the turf from the site and relay it afterwards. Will speak to them about making good.

Mark.  Have you any guide line on how much the fireworks cost?  Also, over the past years the area where the bonfire is located has become very uneven.  Are there plans to smooth and re-turf the area?

The Times newspaper at the weekend that £1,000,000 (a million!) of fireworks were provided at this Ravenscourt Park display.Can that be so?

That makes me feel better, Mark!  Actually I love it and was there on Saturday evening oohing and aaahing along with a very happy crowd of onlookers.

Caroline,Whatever you may think about the fireworks in the park - it's the biggest single event for borough residents each year which thousands of familes and kids really enjoy.More importantly, the alternative would be thousands more parents lighting fireworks in their gardens and the fire brigade and casualty departments being swamped. We have quite enough of these already.Best of all, because this year we have managed to cover the cost by admission charges and the rent from the funfairs, no Council Tax at all will 'go up in smoke'.

Yes, I do feel sorry for our 4 legged friends.  They will be glad to see 6th November.
