Tara Camogie London

Tara Camogie Club will start training first week in February for the new season.  We have both a junior and a senior team so all standards welcome from beginners to seasoned players!! Busy times up ahead:  Club AGM at Hammersmith Irish Centre on Saturday 10 February, from 2pm.Fundraising Race Night at The Leamington Pub, Horn Lane Acton on Friday 2 March.  First Race 8.30pm.We expect League matches to commence early March and we will travel to Birmingham for Camogie Tournament Saturday 10 March.London County camogie team will travel to Tyrone in the National League on Sunday 4 February and we wish all the girls best of luck and especially the Tara girls.www.camogie.co.uk  or tel: 020 8561 3544.  Thanks

Ah camogie isnt at all like "rugby".  We would be competitive in challenging for a ball but no real contact, pulling, scrumming all over the place.  Camogie is the ladies version of hurling but the mens game would be much more physical and faster. It is sort of similar to hockey but we can use the stick to raise the ball from the ground and strike the ball in the air. Our goal posts are similar to rugby but our cross bar is much lower than in rugby. So we have 2 umpires at each set of goals.  One umpire would use a green flag to signal a goal ie ball under the bar and between the posts and the other umpire uses a white flag to signal a point ie ball over the bar.  1 goal is equivalent to 3 points.We do also have a lino on each line that covers the whole of one side.  Its such a fast game the referee does need the extra officals for help and we need extra players so anyone interested is welcome....

Well, you learn something every day!  I've managed to survive so far without knowing what camogie is, but it appears to be women's hurling, a cross between hockey and rugby.Tell me, why do you need 4 goal umpires in addition to a referee and 2 linesmen?  7 officials for 30 players seems excessive, compared to rugby, hockey or soccer.
