I think I should point out that I'm not fanatically pro- or anti-tram. I got involved in this thread merely to correct some factual inaccuracies about routes. I offered links to websites, rather than personal opinions! I was just trying to keep the discussion well-informed.So, I don't want to play ping-ping over this ad infinitum. I think your last post is mainly right."Even if you are right that most of the traffic comes on the A40..."I think this will be the case, for the reasons mentioned before."...this doesn't change the fact that a substantial amount of extra traffic will need to cross the Green but there will be significantly less road space when the tram appears"I do envisage increased traffic flow from neighbouring areas such as Chiswick, and there will be less road space for cars if the tram is built."How could this result in anything other than more congestion?"Referring specifically to Shepherd's Bush Green, I think that a combination of Westfield and the tram could result in increased congestion there. However, it will be mitigated by the new bus station, the rebuilt and expanded Central Line station, a completely new Hammersmith & City Line station, a completely new Overground station, and the tram itself, all of which are designed to provide alternatives to driving.A few people from Chiswick might still try to drive their cars around the Green, but if the congestion gets too bad, perhaps they will shop elsewhere or start using public transport.(What a thought - people from Chiswick wanting to come to Shepherd's Bush...for the times, they are a-changin'.)
