'Devil' Dogs kill cat on Edith Road

Is the problem of fighting dogs a London wide problem or do we suffer particularly badly in this area. There have been several reports on this site about dog related incidents and I read in the local paper this week about a woman on Edith Road whose cat was killed by a group of Staffordshire Pit Bulls apparently egged on by their owners.She heard a commotion outside her house and when she came out she saw a group of three men with dogs (not on leads) surrounding her cat. When she approached them they walked away. Then she saw her cat dead on the pavement. The men said that they didn't do it. The cat was unmarked but she believes that its neck was broken. The RSPCA told her it would be £130 for an autopsy to prove this but that it would be pointless unless she had further corroborating evidence. Without eyewitnesses to the actual event any prosecution would be unlikely to succeed.The man she spoke to was described as being in his thirties with a dark green hooded top - no race given. Further incidents like this are bound to happen unless something is done - eventually it will be a child rather than a cat.

Oh the poor lady, I feel so sorry for her.  Mind you I would have thought if the dogs themselves had killed the cat there would have been some "distinguishing" marks, although not to say the dogs had not chased the cat and it had got hurt in trying to escape.  I often see dogs off lead, not all necessarily aggresive I hasten to add, but was just wondering about the policy recently introduced concerning stopping people whose dogs are walking free?  Has this been put into practice yet?
