Patronising Lib Dem "representative"
At the risk of being controversial, does anyone else care what "Hammersmith and Fulham Liberal Democrat spokesman" Jon Burden thinks about the ethnicity of the models on the Westfield advertising hoardings?First of all, he is not an elected representative. As far as I am aware, the population of H&F have not recently elected a single Lib Dem councillor, MP, MEP, or London Assembly member, so I don't know why he thinks he can speak on behalf of the local populace.Secondly, as far as I can see, the photographs only use a total of about three models. I think what the Lib Dem "spokesman" is missing is that the photographs are of fashion models - they are not supposed to be local residents. (One of the female models has red hair - is this unrepresentative of the local blonde-, brown- and grey-haired communities?)I believe the improved transport links, employment opportunities and local policing to which the Westfield centre has contributed far outweigh the importance of the ethnicity of a handful of fashion models. (Naomi Campbell would probably have been too expensive, anyway!!!)Is this kind of pettiness helpful to local cohesion? Aren't the Lib Dems just being ridiculously politically correct and incredibly patronsing?
