How bad are the floods in Hammersmith?

I've seen some pretty bad images on the TV but should I be expecting the worst when I get home. Apparently Primark is shut - things must be really bad.

Good work Stephen. Enjoy your trip down the sewers (if one can enjoy such a thing). I have been to the touristy Parisian ones, but I'd imagine the ones under Brook Green will be a little more basic.

Stephen,Was surprised about Brook Green - wouldn’t have thought it was an area prone to flooding. Well done on your investigation into the possible causes of this. Have Thames Water finished their renewals work on the water main in the Brook Green area? If not perhaps they could do this work in conjunction with this.  Will keep an eye on your website for developments.

Hi Caroline & JohnThe flooding was across the borough. Fulham was badly hit as was Hammersmith and Brook Green. I know of six roads that were affected in my ward alone.I had a look at a map of the sewers on Wednesday (what a glamorous life I lead) and it seems that floods occurred along the route of the main trunk sewer that runs down Hammersmith Grove and into Brook Green so I’d like to find out whether it’s blocked or just couldn’t take the capacity of the extra rain water.As Caroline says; people had foul water flushed into their homes, which is probably a result of their None Return Valves either being faulty or having fallen away.I’ll post something onto my website to let you know how I get on with Thames Water.RegardsStephen

Thanks Stephen.  I found the information very useful.  Am reconsidering plans for a picnic on Sunday and filling sandbags instead.Our road was one of the first 'done' by Thames Water last year and we don't appear to have had any back up problems so hope it stays that way.I feel so sorry for those who have though and today heard from friends who had water gushing through their ground floor last Friday, down into the basement completely destroying their kitchen and dining room down there.

I've been inundated with calls as around 30 streets suffered flooding in H&F. Many people have had sewage and foul water flushed into their homes. I've posted details about some of the issues here; http://thecowanreport.blogspot.com/2007/07/borough-flooded-again.html but would urge all residents who think they may be at risk of flooding in the future to ensure Thames Water has maintained the None Return Valve on their property's sewer juntion.More heavy rain fall is forecast for this Sunday.RegardsCllr. Hammersmith seems to have escaped the worst.Chiswick was badly affected - quite a few of the restaurants / shops were closed due to flooding.

Let's hope the Thames doesn't flood in a day or so when the torrents currently working their way through Oxfordshire reach Hammersmith.
