Everyman Cinema Club

I can grumble.  I live very near where this awful development may take place (have you seen the plans??) and am dreading the day it gets approval.  Apart from the fact Hammersmith does not need more office space- just look around you and see how much is already unoccupied - the parking and traffic problems it will create will be horrendous.  If they want to develop this NCP site, why not include affordable housing within the plans?  I am not against an Everyman arriving in the area but why not put it in that flea-pit of a cinema that's at the other end of King Street? Not in this architectural blot on the landscape.

But presumably the people putting up millions of pounds of investment are a better judge of whether there is demand for office space in Hammersmith than any of us are?

IF the offices provide work for local residents then that is a good thing.

I'm not against having a cinema - not at all - but the main function of this building will be for the provision of office space which is not needed.

I agree with you Jim - keeping things the same generally means you end up going backwards and Hammersmith Town centre desperately needs an injection of innovation and investment or it will continue to deteriorate into a tawdry secondary centre with poor facilities and scruffy shops & cafes. There will be a lot of new development nearby so we need to make our town centre vibrant in order to compete - otherwise it will die.  Personally, I don't think the proposals are unattractive either - the proposed building is certainly going to be better looking than the car park and whilst I agree we should apply pressure to the developers to properly take into account general public amenity, access, traffic etc. this I feel is better done from a co-operative and positive standpoint than an instinctively negative one. If you read the other comments in this thread, including my own, you will see that on the whole they are positve.

I'm a member of the Brackenbury Residents Association (that you say that opposes the scheme).  Did we have a vote or something?I can't wait for the Everyman to arrive - Hammersmith faces huge challenges with the shopping competition from Westfield when that opens - it could easily become a wasteland of charity shops and fried chicken sellers.  It needs to reinvent itself, and it needs investment from quality businesses.  It needs businesses to pay rates too.  Hammersmith is a hub for media companies (music, film etc) and the council should encourage this specialisation.  A top quality cinema on what is now a horrible carpark - who can grumble?

I think everyone should know that this cinema would be in the proposed redevelopment of the NCP carpark at the corner of Hammersmith Grove and Beadon Rd. The planning application has been submitted to the Council for a 12-storey green bubble montrosity which will tower over Lyric Square and will be entirely at odds - in size and tone - with its neighbours.The building - which will largely be office space (which we don't need)- will cause huge parking and traffic problems in what is already one of the most congested parts of London. And this is before the enormous Westfield development in Shepherds Bush comes on stream next year.I urge you to oppose this development - my residents' association is doing so. (No offence to the cinema.)

I assume it's going to be as expensive as the Hampstead venue!  Are you planning to run the excellent Mother and Baby showings, as you do there?

Very glad to have another cinema coming. I get very fed up with still having to go to the west end still to see anything other than the mainstream blockbusters so it would be nice to have a good cinema, somewhere in the  middle between mainstream and arthouse, that did some of the smaller films(UK film industry's appalling distribution system permitting that is). We've got the Shepherds Bush Vue and the new multiplex coming at Westfield White city to cover the blockbusters and the Riverside doing mostly re-runs, world and indie film, but showings are limited and it's easy to miss stuff.  Anyway, I agree, it's a shame it's so long away.

Great news that you are opening... but a pity it is so long away.I haven't been to the Everyman in Hampstead... how would you say the experience compares with the Electric Cinema in Notting Hill?

Think this is great news but disappointed to learn that we will have to wait three years. Cineworld remains the archetypal flea pit and the Riverside Studios programme selection was often unfathomable.
