Tesco and the Town Hall
Has anyone else noticed that according to the news item on Hammersmith Today one of the short listed developers for the regeneration of the Town Hall is St James's Investments Ltd? If my memory is correct this is the front company for Tesco. Has the Tory administration done a U-turn? I remember about 18 months ago that the Conservatives ran a vigourous campaign against the prospect of Tesco buying the cinema site. Perhaps now they've been elected, the thought of plush offices built on the proceeds of Tesco money is more enticing.I hope Mark Loveday can be a little more up front with residents on this issue than he has been about the development of the NCP car park. Will Tesco's be allowed to build on the cinema site? How many meetings has the council had with this developer and the other developers short listed for this site? What are their proposals? It does seem a big coincidence that this annoucement is made when the attention of many local people is distracted by the NCP car park proposal. Maybe Cllr Loveday, Cabinet Member for Strategy, should be given more credit than he is currently. It's a smart tactic to divert peoples attention with the NCP plans in order to sneak through a Tesco development in Kings Street.
