The Black Lion....

...went here on Sunday for lunch.  Dreadful. Ordered at 1:45; starters arrived at 2:30; mains arrived at 3:10, two of which were stone cold and undercooked (sausages), which was not great as one of the girls we were having lunch with is 6 months pregnant. We complained but the only thing removed from the bill was one of the meals that was returned and not substituted (at our request).  Expensive for what it was and a long and painful process just for a Sunday pub lunch.  Suspect its a nice boozer for a beer, but wouldn't bother for food.

Sadly, yes, because that means people will be flocking from everywhere and us poor locals will never be able to get a table!  The problem is that the garden takes up so much space and nobody (even with eco-unfriendly outdoor heaters) is going to want to sit in it come December.  The menu is just so original and beautifully presented.  But I wish AA Gill had left his pen at home.

The Black Lion is a culinary disaster area.  How it has the cheek to call itself a wonderful gastro-pub is beyond me.  If you want a real gastro-pub, The Carpenter's Arms in St Peter's Square is the place to be (that's if you can get in now AA Gill has given it 5 stars - and no, I'm not involved, just a customer who would like to be able to go more often, it's so good).

The people on the next table had a similar problem but complained in such an aggressive and unpleasant manner that we were probably too low key when we complained... Seems the kitchen there is a little too small for the number of tables...

That sounds awful, nice of them not to charge for a meal you had to return!!!I know it is out of the area but the pub I often eat at on a Sunday lunchtime, and some Saturday evenings, is the Town Wharf in Isleworth.  Lovely food, always well presented, good prices, good selection and a lovely location.
