Remembrance Sunday

Today is the 11th November..Remembrance Sunday..and this year there seems to be extra emphasis.It's very sad that so many thousands and thousands of people have died in war zones over the years..leaving families and friends distraught.No wonder there will be such sensitive ceremonies held in the Borough and elsewhere this morning.Today is a special day...we must spare a thought and more.

I'm reading last week's Brentford and Chiswick Times, and on page 11, there is a suggestion that "Hammersmith" not longer has wreath-laying ceremonies on Remembrance Day.Is that so?The letter to the Editor was submitted by Cllr Paul Lynch who is Chairman of the Chiswick Branch of the Royal British Legion. He said that such ceremonies are a " beloved tradition, which in many parts (Hammersmith for instance) has died out"Oh dear!

Jim,Thank you for that reminder.  I was in Normandie, France yesterday. Several veterans of the D Day campaign there too, visiting comrades they left behind so many years ago.  And our thoughts were with the recent fallen too.
