Shepherd's Bush Market?

Hello, The Shepherd's Bush Market is a real asset to Hammersmith and Shepherd's Bush communities. It is quite diverse and culturally rich. Products range from fresh food to clothing. I, like many people leaving around the area, love it.  This surely needs to remain but it could also can be improved because the market is not very pretty (to say the least) and a number of the shops are run down. Shop owners and residents would benefit from a market that would be regenerated. With the opening of Westfield commercial centre, a large number of people will come in the area. If the Shepherd's Bush Market was a nice place to visit, it could become a place to discover, a market like Borough Market in Southwark with more organic food shops and quality. This will most certainly be successful and will benefits Hammersmith and Shepherd’s Busth Residents as well as current shop owners. Such Market regeneration would need only a moderate investment to clean up the place and organise better the shops. Do you know if there are plans for such regeneration?

I think Shepherds Bush Market serves the community well as it is, scruffy though it may be.  It is a proper down to earth working market where you can buy all sorts of things very cheaply and this makes it pretty much unique in west london. I love Borough Market too, but it's an entirely different kind of market with different origins and as much a tourist attraction as a market.  It's also hugely expensive to shop in. I would be concerned that gentrifying Shepherds Bush market would destroy it's character and it's usefulness and in the uniform and homogenised world we now live in, we need these small shops and stalls and the variety they bring.  Provided the market is well managed and kept clean, lit and safe, with some facilties for shoppers and traders (as there are already), I for one don't think it should be tinkered with.
