Queens Park Rangers of Fulham FC?

Although I'm a lifelong Leeds fan (sigh) I fully accept the argument that you should support your local team so I want to encourage my Hammersmith born and bred son to do the right thing.What I can't work out is which team is the local one. Loftus Road and Craven Cottage are about the same distance away so geography is no help. Is there any particular affinity between Hammersmith and either of the clubs? Is Hammersmith their patch? I'd like him not to be in a minority of one when he goes to school. I know some of the QPR players past and present have had Hammersmith connects e.g. Kevin Gallen and Martin Rowlands. Please don't suggest Chelsea as they remind me too much of Revie's Leeds and I don't want to take a mortgage out every time there is a game on.

Having seen the close season signings by Fulham (particularly now Bullard will hopefully be able to play a full season this year) I think they are quite serious about staying up.I'll continue going to both when the opportunity presents itself but I think Fulham will do surprisingly well.

Thanks everyone for all your replies. I think we'll probably go for Fulham although as suggested he will get to see both before a decision is made. The season ticket cost of £299 seems very reasonable at Craven Cottage.

At the margin, I'm for QPR BUT: [some] Fulham supporters used to be able to turn round to watch the start of the Boat Race...don't know whether stand development [or Sunday Boat Race]has put a stop to that!

Not a supporter of either but have been to both over the years.Atmosphere - probably better at QPR. The Fulham crowd tends to take a bit of time to get going.Family friendly - Fulham better on this score. The Putney end has a neutral stand in which the environment has always been pleasant when I've been there.Ease of access - QPR is much nearer than me but I've always found Craven Cottage tricky to get away from. Ultimately you might have to walk up Fulham Palace Road to Hammersmith Broadway. Not a great idea if you have smaller kids.Quality of football - It's been a while since I have seen QPR but Fulham do have some good players particularly Murphy and Bullard. If they stay up you get to see premiership games.Looking ahead - QPR with their super rich financial backers are probably on the up whereas Mo Fayed's pockets are not so deep. Even if Fulham stay up they will be perennial drop dodgers and if Fayed pulls out they will be in a financial mess. If you start supporting QPR now and Bernie and his mates do put in loads of cash you can be like all those Chelsea fans who claimed they were down the Bridge every week when they were in the second division.

Personally, I'd opt for QPR.  Their fans seem a friendly enough bunch and their ground is compact and full of atmosphere.  You get a great view and are close to the action.  I'm not a QPR fan but have been known to go along as a neutral to get a 'fix' of football !

I'd guess that people living in the north of the Borough would support QPR and those in the south would tend to favour Fulham.

Hammersmith & Fulham wasn't always Hammersmith & Fulham.  Hammersmith used to be the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham used to be the London Borough of Fulham, so really people living in Hammersmith should support QPR and those living in Fulham should support Fulham.  My husband's supported QPR for over 50 years so I'm a bit biased, though I'm originally from Sunderland (BIG sigh) so I have my own problems.
