Does this site have a future ?

As I write this there are 6 people accessing HammersmithToday.co.ukThere are 241 people on ChiswickW4.com.....Time for a merger / takeover ?

Although the forum is a bit clunky and old fashioned I think people like the simpler format and I've never had any technical problems apart from a few minor glitches when I've logged into two sites at the same time and my browser has got confused.The massive volume of posts suggests that design isn't an obstacle to future growth.

I have real problems replying to any posts even though I'm logged in! I've sent the errors to the technical contact. I'm sure it would put off the most tenacious characters!

Just email it to all our Hammersmith friends, neighbours, family and acquaintances. I agree, it's hasn't got the numbers yet to make it really viable. but there's no reason why it shouldn't have.Let's be the ambassadors for the site and realise its potential

Perhaps your friends and neighbours do not know about the forum!I am sure that once people are aware of the Hammersmith forum they will be more than willing to participate. After all one has to start somewhere!Ealing, Acton & Chiswick are becoming more popular as word gets around, I guggest therefore that you keep your local forum - just get more members!Good luck!

Let's stay independent!  There are some of us who use this site and even meet up for a drink occasionally.  Now, there is a good idea ...... anyone else interested?

These sites seem to grow organically and slowly. Acton a couple of years ago was getting a similar amount of posts and now it is getting much more although nowhere near Chiswick. I think part of the problem is that people from Hammersmith and Acton use the Chiswick site and that is restricting the growth of the other areas. Nevertheless both boards are reasonably active - comparing them to Chiswick isn't fair because that one is exceptional. Are there many other local discussion boards in the UK that are busier than the Hammersmith and Acton ones?

But it does get used, we are doing that now which proves people do look at it.  Just because the viewing figures do not compare as highly as the Chiswick site, so what.  As I have proven I have posted comments on both this site and the Chiswick one regarding Lyric Square, on the Chiswick site I got responses back asking why I was posting on that site when I was talking about Hammersmith.........I have not posted on that site since!

I agree - it would be a great shame to lose this site or have it merged with another - does it really matter if there aren't hordes of people using it all the time? I guess it just needs to be a bit better publicised which is really down to all of us who use it now.

Absolutely not, Hammersmith and Chiswick are completely different boroughs so why would we want to merge the forum?

I'm not a Hammersmith resident but having a site like this in my own area (Acton) is invaluable and I wouldn't want to see it subsumed into Chiswick. It is the best source of news locally yet still gets a fraction of the traffic of the W4 site. Don't see the logic of a merger unless the company that runs it decides that it is commercially unviable. If so closure would be more likely.
