NHS Patient Choice

I have just been referred to the hospital by my optician, took a letter to my GP last Monday fully expecting to wait weeks for a response and then months for an appt.  Imagine my surprise to receive a letter from my Dr on Friday with details of how I can book my own appt at a choice of 5 hospitals.  Still fully expecting to be told I can have an appt in 6 months I rang the number and was again surprised to be offered an appt on 17th November with a choice of times. If this is patient choice what a bloody marvellous system.

My son was pleasantly surprised to receive a first appt for something at a hospital straight away, but then found this was a way of massaging statistics, because the second appointment that he needed to attend wasn't available for a further 6 months. This was at the Hammersmith Hospital.
