Do the Tories support lap dancing?

With the massive opposition to the plans for 'Passion Nights', a lap dancing club in West Kensington, Private Eye has mischievously looked at the track record of local Conservatives on this issue.Greg Smith, who is on the licensing panel who will make the decision, is a member of libertarian group the Young Britons' Foundation. Last year they organised a party at Stringfellows for their younger members as part of an educational programme.When the Conservatives had their conference in Birmingham the pack handed out to delegates included a money off voucher for a local lap-dancing bar.A early-day motion has recently been submitted to parliament asking for a loophole in the Licensing Act which makes it easier to open these clubs. Greg 'No' Hands our local MP has yet to sign it.

It's 2008; do we really need to continue to collude with the use of young women as masturbation aid for immature men?Yes of course some of the girls are not overtly coerced. After all, what is easier than persuading an unloved kid with no self confidence that gyrating round a plonker for money means she is after all attractive?Sad.

Aaron, I don't have children so can only guess as to what I would say but I think, if I was asked such a question by a child, would just say it is a dance club for grown ups......would a child need to know more than that?However as you say a decision has been made.

Carol, if you had a young daughter how would you explain the function of such places to her? The question about the Tories and lapdancing seems to have been answered by the Council's decision on 'Passion Nights'.

Having not lived that near to a lap dancing club, (although Secrets (I think that is the name) in Glenthorne Road is not far from me) but very near to pubs, I am wondering what is the opposition to such an establishment?  From what I have seen walking past the above club there is security on the door, I would imagine the drinks are ridiculously expensive so only s certain clientele would be able to afford to enter such an establishment and then not be able to get that drunk, and I would imagine there is a certain code of conduct so if anybody did cause a rumpus they would be out on their backside very quickly.  However when it comes to the pubs it seems to me to be the total opposite......get in for free, drink as much and as quickly as you can, be as rowdy, obnoxious and disgusting as you can be, pee in whichever doorway is the nearest........and that is just some of the girls!  I think out of the above two options I know which one I would prefer.
