It was east of the present town hall, and is now called Riverside Gardens. It looks as if the name was changed from South Street some time between 1916 and 1935. (Goodness knows why, since it's not by the river! But perhaps the gardens used to run down towards the river before the A4 was built.)If you go to http://www.maps.lbhf.gov.uk/easymaps/welcome_to_easymaps.aspenter the name of an existing road, such as Riverside Gardens, select "Create your own map", and click on "Search Address". Then select any one of the addresses in that road that are offered and click "View map". Then select one of the Historical Maps and click "Launch Map". You'll get a copy of the old street map plus the modern street names overlaid in grey. I found it a bit slow and temperamental, but it worked in the end.
