Attempted abduction on Fulham Palace Road 1960's
A bit of a long shot, but can anyone help. During the time of the unsolved murders of 8 young women in the Hammersmith district in the early 1960's, a 22 year old accounts clerk known only as Valerie was the subject of an attempted abduction in Fulham Palace Road. A man in a parked car asked Valerie if she would help him out of his car as he was a cripple. Valerie was suspicious and backed away. The man got out of his car and tried to force Valerie inside. She screamed and a passerby ran to help her and the man drove away and was never identified. I believe the attacker was Harold Jones aka Harry Stevens aka Harry Jones who lived at 29 Hestercombe Avenue at the time of the attack. I believe he then moved to 20 Colinette Road Putney after the attack for fear of being identified by Valerie. Jones when he was 15 attempted to rape and then murdered 2 small children in the town in Abertillery Wales where I live. After serving 20 years in prison he lived in Fulham, Putney and Hammersmith using various names.I have been able to link Jones to 3 of the 8 murdered women and also to a suspect in the killings who was from Putney. I am trying to find out what Valerie's surname was and to find the date of her attempted abduction. Can anyone please help. Chat to your parents or grandparents, maybe they can remember.
