Council Turns Down Cash to Offer Free Swimming
Hammersmith Council has turned down Government money from a project that aimed to encourage swimming by school children to tackle obesity and lack of fitness in that age group. Most London Councils have taken the money but Hammersmith said no because they think they would lose too much revenue to justify taking the grant. This is probably because pool charges in the borough are already much higher than elsewhere so if anything this scheme was even more needed here than in other places. They have accepted Government money to offer free swimming for the over 60s
