Yes, I'm sorry to say it was an accident on the north pedestrian crossing by the Hammersmith & City LU Station and despite the best efforts of the London Ambulance Service the person died.

CCTV from Hammersmith Broadway and the adjoining London Underground Station are regularly used by Police in order to identify offenders and to support prosecutions for people that have been arrested or reported. The number of instances for which they have been used are not recorded centrally, but I would suggest about 2-3 times week on average.

Thank you Mark for your reply. When I raised the point I was unaware there had been a serious incident there recently, I was just concerned there might be. Was it a fatality?

What is the protocol for dogs on buses? Can a driver refuse if he thinks that the dog might be a risk to other passengers?

I remember reading recently that the area around Hammersmith Broadway is one of the most intensively covered by CCTV in the country. How many instances of film from these cameras being used in suspect identification have there been over the last year or so?

Hello, in answer to your question, firstly - it is not our area of responsibility - this would lie with the local borough council. I am not aware of a specific issue with this crossing, except for the tragic accident that occurred last month there. Unfortunately some people will always risk running across the crossing even when the red man has been illuminated and there is a limited amount that can be done to prevent this. If you have any ideas about addressing the issues surrounding these very busy crossings, please let the LBHF transport planning team know, who will consider the options from a safety and financial standpoint. Not sure if this is in your remit but do the police have a view on the crossing at the bottom of King Street into the tube station. The large number of people crossing here means there are always a few still crossing when the lights change and, as I've seen a few near misses, I presume accidents happen regularly. Do you agree a rethink is necessary.
