Having just read the proposed Planning Application for a ten-storey tower block to replace Allied Carpets at Seven Stars roundabout, I cannot believe that they can erect something like this in what is supposed to be a Conservation Area. 'sweetheart'?? Not patronising at all, then...To answer two of your queries (although I dislike the personal tone you have taken), I have visited the majority of the cities you list. I grew up in Hong Kong, a place not devoid of said tower blocks. I still think such a building is inappropriate for the site that has been mooted. What would I put in its place? Something that is appropriate. To suggest that I would favour housing for the rich is simply inflammatory. But then, that is manifestly your intention...

sweetheart have you travelled to cities such asnew york chicago la sydney toronto paris tokyorio frankfurt ???well i should put just about every major city on the planet here. all these cities have "tower blocks" that are built by the thousands without any negative effect on their surroundings. why should london be so different ?do you really want allied carpets to stay ?and i hardly think 10 floors constitutes a tower block, the average church spire has a greater height than a ten story building. this proposal not only will deliver first class architecture to a run down roundabout it will also provide more key worker accomodation for the local area. what would u like to see on the site ? a few posh town houses for the rich ??

Mea culpa - in my last post, I should have put 'appeal' rather than 'new proposal'. Then again, s reynolds should have realised that a tower block is a tower block, whichever way you dress it up.

Uncanny - on Sunday, this message appears. On Monday, a new proposal drops onto our doormats for the Allied Carpets site. Of course, it's a coincidence. Not even a developer could be that obvious...

what is wrong with a well designed asthetic apartment building being built in the middle of a huge city ???have you seen the eyesore thats there now ???please can people stop bashing modern apartments buildings and calling then tower blocks. tower blocks were errected in the 60'S ! not in 2005. why is it such a big surprise when developments like this come along , why do people react so badly. this is a city ...a dirty one at that, if you dont wanna see this sort of stuff on your back door then go move to a hamlet in the middle of scotland. london needs high density regeneration to cope with the number of people who want to live here. london and its world class facilities are not just for you to enjoy ! have you nothing better to do ?why dont you use your time better in trying to get more money to restore st pauls , or money to clean the streets better !.

Paula, I fear the council are happy for the ambulance station to stay where it is, after all, it's £100 per ticket in their coffers.

As has been pointed out elsewhere the current cramped ambulance station on Goldhawk Road is in danger of closure and this site would be the ideal location for a replacement - the Council could fund it using all the tickets they have been giving to ambulances.

Bexwell Properties looks like it is associated with the company that used to own the Elephant and Castle Shopping Centre.  They sold it in 2002, for tens of millions of pounds, so they are quite well backed.  They actually bought that site back in January.That said, they have put the site up for sale through Savills, featuring the development.  Otherwise they are threatening to sell it to a supermarket 'but not a nice one like Waitrose' (!!)
