Chance for a new start as adult students get enrolled

A great range of adult education courses and some fantastic new facilities are on offer as enrolment gets under way for the new term - which starts on 20 September.

Residents can learn motor vehicle maintenance, discover a new language and culture, take up furniture restoration and upholstery or improve their literacy and computer skills.

It is now even easier to enrol - with many courses signing-up students over the phone when they call the new advice and enrolment hotline number on
020 8600 9191.

Meanwhile, the 2004-5 course guide is available at libraries, council offices and adult education centres. There are five main adult education centres in the borough, four of which have undergone major improvements in the last two years.

Facilities and courses include:
· New professional standard motor vehicle maintenance workshop at the Macbeth Centre, in Macbeth Street, Hammersmith. Beginners to aspiring mechanics are invited to sign up for courses aimed at car or motorbike owners, alongside a car maintenance course specifically aimed at women. The one-year City & Guilds car maintenance course also offers you the chance to become a qualified mechanic.
· A range of free, skills for life vocational courses, with free crèche places available. These range from sewing, childcare and art to literacy, numeracy, English as a second language and business.
· New state-of-the-art kitchen which is fully accessible for disabled students at the Munster Centre, in Fulham. Courses range from Caribbean and French cookery to haute cuisine and cake decoration.
· New picture framing and upholstery workshop at the Bryony Centre, in White City. The Bryony Centre also incorporates the Media Café, which runs a wide range of computer, internet and web design courses.
· Redeveloped Sands End Community Centre, bringing together adult education, sports development and fitness, the library service, early years and family support services. Pottery and jewellery workshops, large gym and sports hall, refurbished crèche and free access to computers and the internet are all on offer.
