Masterplan for Bishop's Park

A new masterplan for Bishop's Park has been commissioned this week by Hammersmith & Fulham Council. The council has commissioned Groundwork West London, an organisation that it works with on many other projects, to produce the plan for the park's development. The masterplan will be used to steer future capital investment in the park and it is also hoped the existence of a plan will help to secure funding for projects from external sources.

The masterplan will be developed in close consultation with local residents, park users and amenity groups who will be invited to join a Bishop's Park stakeholder group. Design principles and investment priorities will be established which will then guide a phased implementation of improvements as funds become available.

Councillor Michael Cartwright, cabinet member for environment, said: "Bishop's Park is a much loved open space, but as with any well-used resource it needs to be looked after and regularly improved. We have already allocated nearly half a million pounds this year to make
specific improvements to the play areas and paddling pool, and with this masterplan we will ensure that all the work we carry out complements current and future ambitions for the park. It is also essential that our parks meet the needs of all their users, which is why we have
enlisted the help of Groundwork West London - an organisation which has proven itself to be extremely adept at engaging with local people about improvements to open spaces."

It is hoped that the masterplan will be completed by July 2006.
