Brackenbury Residents Association Wins Grant from Mayor

85 new trees coming to Hammersmith streets

Brackenbury residents have won a grant of £21,250 from Mayor Boris Johnson's Street Trees scheme to plant much needed new trees in four local streets.

Brackenbury Residents Association, which says it is the only London association to have made a successful application this year, hopes the grant will fund the planting of around 85 new trees.

The trees will be in four streets - Glenthorne Road, Banim Street, Cambridge Grove and Hammersmith Grove.

" It is great news," says the association's Rosemary Pettit. " Glenthorne Road, which is currently rather bleak, will be the main focus. We hope to plant new trees in the north and west of the road to match the splendid plane trees growing in the east."

The association now hope the Street Trees scheme can extend to other areas of the borough. Says Rosemary: "We would love to see trees growing in other bare, traffic-filled roads, such as Goldhawk Road."
