Come Celebrate the Reopening of Brook Green Playgound

Rowing champion Tom James to perform official opening on Tuesday afternoon

Olympic hero Tom James MBE, local politicians, residents, corporate employees and a host of children will gather in Brook Green playground on the afternoon of Tuesday November 13, to celebrate the opening of the newly renovated playground.

The new playground is the spearhead of a Green-wide initiative to improve this much-loved verdant island, the heart and lungs of the tight-knit community in the streets around it.

In partnership with Hammersmith and Fulham Council, and as the first project produced by the newly amalgamated Friends of Brook Green (which merged with the Brook Green Association) the playground is the result of teamwork and remarkable consensus.

Major donors, including the Western Rivers Environmental Trust, the Wates Family Enterprise Trust, the William Allen Young Charitable Trust, the Girdlers’ Company Charitable Trust, the Ecole Francais Jacques Prevert and Halcrow HC2M Hill Ltd provided the lion’s share of the cost of the project.

" A tight team of local volunteers really drove this project and will continue to push the next phases of the Green’s future improvements," says Susannah Frieze, of the Friends of Brook Green.

" Now that we’ve got the playground re-designed, landscaped and beautifully fitted out, we will move on to consulting residents and workers, awareness-raising and fund-raising for a new Pavilion and improving the lighting, security and amenities of this beautiful corner of Hammersmith."

The Opening Ceremony, at 4pm on Tuesday November 13 will be attended by Deputy Leader of the Council Greg Smith, local councillors, local schools and will be performed by Tom James MBE, the gold-medallist rowing champion who used to play on Brook Green as a child.

Hot drinks and cupcakes will be provided for all.
