Burglary
rate doubles during Summer
Don't
let it happen to you, say Police
The weekly burglary rate DOUBLED on the borough last year when the weather became warm enough for people to start leaving windows open.
If an outside door or window is left open in a room that is unsupervised - ground floor, basement level or first floor with easy climbing - then for your own sake please shut & if possible lock those doors & windows.
A prime example is a ground floor bay window left open when occupiers are in the rear garden enjoying a barbecue.
Opportunist burglar leans in or opens window and goes in and takes cash, credit cards, IT equipment & mobile phones.
This was an extremely popular & regular method during the summer months of 2003.
Now you know! Please don't let it happen to you.
