New
bus route to Shepherds Bush
A new frequent 24-hour bus service starts this weekend to link Camberwell,
Westminster and Shepherd's Bush.
The 148/N148 (Shepherd's Bush - Victoria - Camberwell) is one of six
brand new routes boosting services into central London before the introduction
of congestion charging in February 2003. New routes, plus improvements
to more than fifty services, will increase capacity into central London
by 11,000 spaces in the peak hour.
Cllr Mike Cartwright, Deputy for Environment, London Borough of Hammersmith
And Fulham said:
"The council is pleased to welcome a new bus route to the borough
and are glad to see local residents will benefit from an additional
24 hour link to the centre of town."
The 148/N148 is the first entirely new 24 hour service introduced by
London Buses and will use 18 new low-floor double deck buses fitted
with CCTV for extra security. It will run between Shepherd's Bush, Notting
Hill Gate, Bayswater Road, Marble Arch, Hyde Park Corner, Victoria,
Westminster, Elephant and Castle, Walworth Road and Camberwell.
The 148/N148 will be operated by London United on behalf of London Buses
under new Quality Incentive Contracts. Operators are given incentives
and deductions relating to delivering quality and reliability according
to set targets. The performance of each route is monitored by London
Buses and action can be taken at any time if the route is not up to
standard.
