National Cat Championship @ Olympia

The National Cat Club was founded in 1887 and this year will host its 108th Championship Show. Held a the National Hall, Olympia, on Saturday 4th December 2004, the National has been referred to as the Crufts of the Pedigree & non pedigree cat show world.

One fact the National can be proud of is that there is no other show like it, and it’s history has made the show what it is today, the largest Cat Club show in the World.

The doors will open to the public at 10.30am and the show closes at 5.00pm (tickets £5-£8.00). This year’s best in show pedigree cat will be judged by Mrs Christina Dugdale, a well-respected International judge for over 50 yrs. In the early 1950’s she exhibited her pedigree long haired cats at the National Cat Club show. Mrs Dugdale is a true lady of legend in the cat fancy and has the challenge of choosing the overall best in show winner on centre stage. Best in show is judged at approximately 4.00pm.

The show was previously televised called ‘The Cat Show’ and was broadcast on BBC 2. The show is delighted to welcome back the BBC Blue Peter presenters with a special guest ‘Smudge’ Blue Peters new kitten. Blue Peter will have a stand at the show and you will find this on the upper level inside Olympia. All children aged 15 & under who are Blue Peter badge owners will be entitled to FREE entry to the show. Please note all children must be accompanied by an adult and Blue Peter badges must be displayed on entrance to the show.

Garfield will be making a personal appearance at this year’s show promoting his latest DVD & Video ‘Garfield the Movie’, a wonderful production by Fox Films. Garfield will be at the show, and you can see him on the Garfield exhibition stand. So pop along and say hello. Childrens face painting will be available, this along with seeing Garfield will make the perfect way to spend your day

The Show is open to Pedigree Cats and Household Pets and is held under the Rules of the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy (GCCF). There are a lot of varieties of both pedigree and non pedigree cats those in competition hoping for that special title of ‘National Cat of the Year’. Sounds like a beauty contest for felines? Well it is, but there is a high standard to follow just like the Kennel Club has for all pedigree dogs. This year sees the launch of 3 new breeds of cat the Siberians, La Perm and Selkirk Rex.

This year’s show also welcomes back by popular demand the famous ‘World of Cats’.
World of Cats is where specialist clubs participate in this providing an excellent source of information on finding, owning and caring for cats of every breed, by experts who have bred, raised and lived with them. This is an excellent learning forum and allows visitors hands on experience of many different breeds. Learn about how to look after & keep a cat with grooming and preparation demonstrations and receive helpful advice on anything and everything concerning the beautiful felines.
