Shops are not following contractual opening hours
Hammersmith & Fulham Conservative Parliamentary Spokesman, Cllr Greg Hands, has lambasted the Labour MP, Council and Mayor today, for even thinking about extending the Congestion Charging zone to the west, when new figures reveal the current system isn’t working.
A study by GLA Conservatives has revealed that 27.59% of the 29 retail outlets in Hammersmith & Fulham that offer motorists the ability to pay the congestion charge are not meeting their contractually obliged 7am to 10am and 4pm to 7pm opening hours. London-wide, the figure is an even worse 40%.
To make things worse, the same study has shown 37% of the Mayor’s Congestion Charge revenue comes from fines, many occurring because of the inconvenience of current payment schemes, including shops not opening at the correct times.
Commenting, Greg said: “It is simply baffling to think that the Labour Party is pushing ahead with the westwards extension to the Congestion Charging zone, when the existing system isn’t even working.
“When over a quarter of Hammersmith & Fulham C-Charge outlets are not meeting their contractual obligations now, I fear were the extension to go ahead, things would become much worse. That is not to mention the thousands of extra cars which would be forced onto our already crowded roads.”
