After a performance in Croydon, the Hammersmith and Fulham Youth Choir is now going to Greenwich. St Peter's Singers have just been to Paris and now they are mounting their third concert at St James's Church, in Piccadilly.

St Peter's Singers is a well-established Hammersmith amateur chamber choir. Originally formed by members of the Church Choir of St. Peter's who wanted an opportunity to perform secular works and sacred music outside the liturgical context, the Choir, consisting of up to 35 voices from a variety of backgrounds, still meets in the Church.

They participated in the Choral Season, in Moscow, and the Chichester Festival and performed in Padua, Venice and Paris.

In March 2001 the Choir performed Bach's Mass in B Minor to a sell-out audience in St James Church Piccadilly, and returned there in March 2002 with the St Matthew Passion. This year, they will perform Montiverdi's Vespers, with Chamber Choir of Lady Margaret School, in Parsons Green, and a glittering array of soloists and instrumentalists.

The Hammersmith and Fulham Youth Choir was launched three years ago, with about eight children attending the first rehearsal. Now there are about 60 children aged six to 14 who live or go to school in the borough.

In November 2001 members of the youth choir performed in a schools prom at the Royal Albert Hall. Recently, they performed a joint concert with Croydon's Addington Voices and Cambridge Heath Brass, a leading Salvation Army band, in Croydon and in Hammersmith. The programme included an excerpt from a specially commissioned song cycle Playing With The Sun, which was first performed by children from local schools last summer.

Now the youth choir is preparing for a joint performance with a youth choir from Paris. This will take place in partnership with Trinity College of Music, in St Alfege's Church, Greenwich, south east London, on 31 May.
