Collision on A4 at 2pm on Friday 7 June

The A4 westbound has reopened to traffic on Friday afternoon following the fatal collision in the hours of this morning.

However, traffic is still very heavy in the surrounding area while things return to normal, so local people are advised to please allow plenty of time if they need to travel.

Both TfL and the police have thanked residents and motorists for their patience while the investigation took place.

It was confirmed this morning that a man had died after a collision on the A4, Great West Road, in Hammersmith involving three cars.

Police say they were called at approximately 1.40am to reports of a road traffic collision on the westbound carriageway of the A4 by Hammersmith Flyover.

One man was pronounced dead at the scene and three others, believed to be in their twenties, have been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving – all have been taken to hospital as a precaution. There are no reports of any other serious injuries.

@TfLTrafficNews reported just after 2am: " [A4] Great West Road (Westbound) at the junction of Nigel Playfair Avenue - Road is closed due to a road traffic collision. Please use other routes."

Then this morning: "One incident from overnight - the A4 is closed westbound at Hammersmith Flyover due to a serious collision further west in the early hours. Tailbacks to Warwick Road with Hammersmith Gyratory also bearing the brunt, which is causing eastbound congestion from Hogarth.
