The building which was formerly home to Argos in the centre of Hammersmith’s King Street is set to be demolished.

Developer Thackeray Estates has submitted a planning application to H&F Council to rebuild 110 - 114 King Street to create 24 flats, with new retail space on the ground floor.

The application, which is currently open for comments, is as follows:

Demolition of the existing building and erection of a part single, part three, part five storey building comprising 437sqm of Class E(a) (b) (c) at ground floor with 24 self-contained flats (Class C3) on the upper floors; associated roof top plant and PV panels; and amenity space, refuse storage, and cycle parking.

It can be seen in full on the council’s website using the reference 2022/01519/FUL.

In the supporting documents, Frost Architects says Thackeray Estates’ vision is to create a vibrant mixed-use development in this key commercial street location, providing high quality retail space and 24 studio, one and two bedroom flats.

Thackeray Estates is also involved in two other sites on King Street, former timber yard Dimes Place - now known as New Timber Yard - and 96-98 King Street, currently occupied by discount store Savers.

The developer has also submitted an application to redevelop this site as follows:

Demolition of the existing building and erection of a part-three, part-four storey building to provide Class E (a) (b) (c) at ground floor level with 16 no. self-contained flats at ground, first, second, and third floor levels with associated rooftop plant.

An appeal to The Planning Inspectorate over this application is currently in progress. Details can be seen on the council website using the reference 2021/00933/FUL.

Thackeray Estates says it is making a significant investment in three key sites and securing the regeneration of King Street by creating a vibrant mix of employment generating uses, town centre living and retail, to enhance the vitality and viability of the town centre.

If these developments gain planning permission and go ahead, they will be among a number of major projects which are set to change the face of Hammersmith’s main shopping street. Others include the controversial plans to redevelop M&S’ site at 27 King Street and of course, the new Town Hall and Civic Campus.
