British Heart Foundation shop is at 127 King Street

The British Heart Foundation shop in on King Street os preparing to close their doors at the end of August, prompting a heartfelt message of thanks to the local community that has supported them for many years. The charity confirmed that the closure, scheduled for Saturday 29 August, form part of a wider effort to keep its national retail network commercially sustainable. The branch in Fulham is also going to shut at this time.

For Hammersmith, the news marks the end of a familiar presence on the high street. The BHF shops have long been part of the area’s everyday life — places to browse, donate, volunteer, chat, and support life-saving medical research simply by picking up a book. Their departure will be felt not only by regular customers but also by the volunteers and staff who have kept the shops running.

Adeniyi Elewe, the charity’s area manager, paid tribute to the borough’s generosity. “We would like to say a huge heartfelt thank you to everyone in Hammersmith and Fulham who have supported our shops over the years,” he said, praising the “dedicated support and passion” of staff and volunteers who helped raise vital funds for cardiovascular research. He added that the shops had been “so much more than a place to shop”, describing them as valued community hubs where people donated, volunteered and found connection.

Donations can still be made through other BHF stores, via home collection, at donation points, or by using the charity’s free postal donation service. Residents can find their nearest alternative shop through the BHF’s online shop-finder.

The closures come at a time when charity retail continues to play a major role in sustainability and medical research funding. Each year, BHF shops sell around 25 million donated items, save 54,000 tonnes of goods from going to waste, and rely on the support of 17,000 volunteers nationwide. Nearly a quarter of the charity’s retail employees began as volunteers, and the organisation continues to encourage new volunteers to join.
