Hammersmith’s popular Summer Festival is set to begin shortly and runs through till August.

Run by Hammersmith BID and sponsored by Livat, the festival, now in its 16th year, will offer a mix of film nights and tennis live from Wimbledon on Lyric Square’s big screen, music, wellbeing activities and more.

Festivities begin on Wednesday 21 June Make Music Day, an international celebration of music which began in France 40 years ago and has now spread to over 1,000 cities in 120 different countries.

In Hammersmith, from 11am – 3pm, local schools and upcoming talent will be taking over Lyric Square. Here’s the programme:

11am: St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, performing various choral works
12.15pm – 12.45pm Jemimah Paine, music from professional singer songwriter whose music is innovative and creative, covering a wide range of genres.
1pm – 2.30pm: Godolphin and Latymer, performing a series of solo performances from selected pupils
2.30pm – 3.30pm: The Rhythm Studio, performances from selected students at a music academy inspiring people to develop their musical talents.
3.30pm – 4pm: Emily Theodora, original material by emerging artist and singer-songwriter from her latest E.P.

Also on 21 June, Livat in King Street is celebrating Small Charity Week, with a small charity showcase inviting local charitable organisations to connect with the community and promote their causes.

Charities taking include Hammersmith Community Garden Association, Sobus, Age UK, Macular Society, Crosslight, Young Hammersmith and Fulham Foundation and The Barons Court Project.

Livat is inviting local people to come along between 0.30am and 4.30pm to find out about the brilliant work these charities are doing and how to get involved.

Livat will also be hosting a Swedish style Midsommar celebration on Saturday June 24, with performances from Swedish singer Karianne Kvalen, facepainting with beautiful hand painted floral designs and Karneval Krowns - a chance to create your very own Midsommar crown with IKEA flowers and foliage.

Midsommar celebrations will be held in Livat’s Atrium, from 2pm till 5pm with no need to book, just drop in and enjoy the free fun.

London Climate Action Week takes place from June 24 until July 2 and in Hammersmith that will include a week of workshops and other activities intended to inspire and support local people, active travel or supporting biodiversity.

The line-up of activities includes:

E-Scooter Information Stand, Lyric Square, 27 June, 11 am – 1 pm
Bee Workshop and Wildflower Planting, Lyric Square, 27 June, 1 pm – 4 pm
Livat Clothing Swap, June 29 and 30, 11 am – 4 pm

From July 3 till July 16, Lyric Square’s Big Screen is taken over by tennis, with all the action live from Wimbledon every day. Grab a drink and a deckchair and catch all the exciting action.

Also in Lyric Square, free film nights will kick off on Wednesday 28 June with Top Gun: Maverick.

On Wednesday July 19 there will be a screening of the National Theatre’s Life of Pi, combining puppetry, magic and storytelling in a unique, Olivier Award-winning stage adaptation of the best-selling novel.

London Climate Action Week takes place from 24 June until 2 July

On Friday July 21, an unforgettable story of courage will unfold in Disney’s Luca. Marking the start of the school holidays, this screening will be geared to Hammersmith’s youngest residents with cushions and astroturf to provide extra seating.

Wellness Wednesdays will be taking place every week, offering free fitness classes from different gyms and fitness studios at lunchtime in Lyric Square on June 28, July 5, 12 and 19.

Picnic on the Square is once again inviting local people to pick up lunch from one of Hammersmith’s many eateries and join the crowd at Lyric Square’s giant picnic tables on June 26 - 28 and July 17 -19.

The very popular free Lunchtime Concerts are also back at St Paul’s Church on July 25, 26 and 27 offering a line-up of talented local and emerging artists. Drop by at lunchtime to relax and soak up the music.
