Hammersmith Broadway Shopping Centre was swept up in World Cup fever last week as The Big Kick-Off Hammersmith brought hundreds of residents, shoppers and football fans together for a lively day of sport, games and community fundraising.

Held on 11 June, the centre was transformed into a buzzing mini-arena, with visitors of all ages taking part in everything from the Football Penalty Challenge and FIFA Gaming Zone to table football, the Hanging Bar Challenge and a host of family-friendly activities. Throughout the day, thousands of people stopped by to test their skills, cheer on friends and soak up the festival atmosphere.

The event, delivered in partnership with Chelsea FC Foundation and West London Mind, raised more than £3,000 to support the charities’ work across west London. Donations came through QR codes, challenge entries and a charity auction featuring exclusive prizes, all helping to highlight the power of sport to bring people together while supporting causes focused on wellbeing, mental health and community development.

Representatives from both charities joined the celebrations, alongside the Mayor of Hammersmith & Fulham, Cllr Sharon Holder, and a steady stream of local supporters who embraced the chance to have fun while making a difference.

Ben Abbiw, General Manager of Hammersmith Broadway Shopping Centre, said the response exceeded expectations. “We are absolutely delighted with the success of The Big Kick-Off Hammersmith. The atmosphere was incredible and we’re proud to have helped raise such a significant amount for two organisations doing outstanding work across west London.”

Molly McQueeney, Major Donor Manager at Chelsea FC Foundation, praised the community spirit on display. “The event demonstrated the positive impact that sport can have in bringing people together. We’d like to thank everyone who attended, donated and got involved. The funds raised will help support our ongoing work within local communities, creating healthier lives, bringing people together and shaping brighter futures.”

Nicholas Smith, Head of Marketing and Communications at West London Mind, echoed the sentiment. “Community support is vital to helping us continue delivering mental health services across west London. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed and to Hammersmith Broadway Shopping Centre and Chelsea FC Foundation for helping make the event such a success.”
