The Hammersmith Broadway area has one of the highest concentrations of Covid-19 of any part of London this week.

According to figures released by the Office for National Statistics there were 41 cases in the area immediately around Hammersmith Town Centre. This gives a rate of infection of 550.1 per 100,000 of population in the week up to 18 October more than four times the current average for London.

We asked Hammersmith & Fulham Council if there was any particular reason for the high level of infection in the area but they did not respond. Previously there was a spike in infections in this location because the Home Office had transferred a number of asylum seekers to a local hotel who were infected with the virus.

Overall Hammersmith & Fulham has the second highest rate of infection of any London borough with 162 cases per 100,000 in the week to 18 October. Only Hackney has a higher rate at 164 cases per 100,000.

Other parts of the borough have much lower rates of infection with Brook Green’s rate of infection just over 100 and Barons Court below the London average at 85.2.
