All pizza deliveries will be made by e-bikes
The new store on Hammersmith opens as company launches new sustainability strategy
April 4, 2023
Pizza delivery company Domino’s is to make its new branch on King Street its first ever low carbon store.
It is aiming to make the new branch a blueprint for future expansion with a reduction in emissions by a third based on pre-build analysis. This will partly be achieved by making all deliveries by a fleet of e-bikes.
The eco-friendly design at the outlet at 138-140 King Street, by the junction with Holcombe Street, keeps the hallmarks of the classic Domino’s store as well as an internal heat pump to replace the gas boiler, a new oven hood which removes heat straight from the oven, and new features for the Cold Rooms to remove energy waste such as automatic door closures, additional controls and thermal curtains. All these innovations are supported by the procurement of 100% renewable energy to run the store.
The opening coincides with the launch of Domino’s new sustainability strategy, named ‘Connect the Dots’, which aims to reduce the carbon footprint of its activities and reach net zero by 2050.
Elias Diaz Sese, interim Chief Executive Officer of Domino’s Pizza Group plc, said, “I am proud to announce our ‘Connect the Dots’ sustainability strategy, which supports our ambition to Deliver a Better Future Through Food People Love.
“We are challenging ourselves and our suppliers to work together to deliver positive change. This means giving more choice to customers, ensuring our workplaces are inclusive, our environmental impact is minimised, our products are responsibly sourced, and that we are giving back to the communities we serve. With this strategy, we are connecting purpose to pizza and our actions to peoples’ passions.
“I am also excited to see us putting our strategy into action with our first low carbon store, helping us to deliver delicious, great value pizza to our customers in West London at a reduced carbon impact and with our impressive new e-bike fleet. This is a brilliant blueprint for the future and we’re looking forward to opening more stores like this one.”
Commenting on the opening of the Hammersmith store, Minister for Energy Security and Net Zero Graham Stuart MP, said, “It’s great to see more and more businesses getting a slice of the action and moving towards more environmentally friendly practices, proving that going green isn’t just good for the planet - but makes good business sense too.”
